Confused about how to lose weight?

Every week at the checkout counter there is another skinny doctor smiling and selling another miracle diet. I get so mad sometimes I turn the magazine around. If these experts are so smart and if weight loss is so easy, how come there is a new diet out every week?

Too much information

If the experts can’t agree, how are we supposed to figure it out? No wonder America is getting fatter and fatter. I even heard of a guy who wanted to prove a point and lost weight eating Twinkies. Yikes!

I understand your confusion

My name is Mackay Rippey. I’ve been an acupuncturist for more than 20 years and have had my own struggles with weight so I understand how confusing all the conflicting dietary advice is - eat carbs, don’t eat carbs, eat fat, don’t eat fat, eat Mediterranean, eat South Beach, eat Chinese, eat like a gorilla - yeah, I actually came across that advice.

You are not a gorilla, but you are unique. Your body requires a unique blend of healthy foods to balance your metabolism. If you don’t give your body what it needs, it’s like putting rocket fuel in your car’s gas tank. Boom! Your metabolism blows up and that’s why diets fail.

Don’t get me wrong, your metabolism doesn’t go kabloey in a day. It takes weeks or months, sometimes more. That’s why so many people lose weight initially, but find it so hard to keep the weight off once they lose it. After the initial weight loss, your body starts to rebel because it’s not getting the nutrition it craves. Statisticians call this the “J curve” because the initial movement is in the right direction, but then things blow up.

One size does not fit all

Each diet expert wants you to believe that his or her solution is a perfect fit for everybody. It’s not. Everyday, people try to force their bodies to accept the wrong foods in the name of weight loss. It’s no wonder so many people find weight loss so difficult.
